Making a list. (gasp!)

Lights Oh. My. GAWD.

I’m soooooooooooooooooo not ready. Are you? (Everyone but meleah can answer because I already know her answer. She’s a stud.)

I must be desperate because I have my notebook out for a list. Do you have any idea how long it’s been since I made a list for something other than possibilities for a dinner menu, recipe ingredients, or groceries? Hmmmmm?

Like I said. Behind.

  1. I still have to get my car smogged so I can get a certificate to mail in with my license fees before the end of the month.
  2. I have to get a couple more gifts for the Middle Son. Fine. So I’m splitting hairs.
  3. I’m making piles of presents to sort out what’s traveling to VA and what’s not.
  4. I’m making Christmas dinner for 16 or so while we’re there, so I’m close to having the menu done. Oh, and breakfast, too, so those recipes are ready to go (have you ever heard of Fat Momma’s French Toast?)
  5. I have successfully completed my December Daring Baker’s Challenge that will be robotically (bwahahahahaha!) posted this coming Saturday at Sass & Veracity, so if you want to laugh your ass off, make sure you check in so you can snort your coffee through your nose. Everyone should be able to say they’ve done it at least once in their life. Suffice it to say, I’m donating the product to the middle school down the street. I’m sure the office staff will have inhaled it before I can make it out the door before they ask what it was.
  6. I bought Christmas cards and think I’ll get around to doing them tonight. The “authorized”service provider for our television and Best Buy will not be on my list. I did find a very cool box of Coal Candy at Restoration Hardware, however.
  7. I made an executive decision and am postponing baking cookies until after New Year’s (how’s that for being an ingenious slacker?)
  8. Most of the house is decked out for our house sitters (The Oldest Son & The Middle Son), so they can feel our holiday lerve and open their presents on Christmas day without us. Of course we’ll probably set up an iChat session so they can see how many of our faces can be crammed into the screen at one time and yell “Merry Christmas!” effectively eliminating any angst caused by our leaving them here because they had to work. Sprucin’ up the Place  More Decorations
  9. The RT has to clean his area (because he has managed to get it back to the condition it was before I painted and organized it.
  10. The MoH took care of the laundry yesterday (He’s well-trained. Okay, so actually, he’s just a nice guy.)
  11. Now, a final trip to the grocery store so the guys have enough junk to eat while we’re gone.

So, yah. I’m ready.

Soooooo not ready for Santa.

But I’m smiling.

  1. Ritzy

Kelly – have a FABULOUS trip East! May your airport & airline troubles be slim, your suitcases arrive with you, and may the weather be on your side… I will send good vibes as you make your way through the midwest here. 🙂

  2. Hey Ritzy — THANKS! We’ve been watching the weather and are quite happy that “thing” that blew everything around this past weekend will be over. A little snow would be nice, though. Send some our way, ‘kay? 🙂

  3. OMG!! I’m laughing my ass off…I am SO NOT ready, and i have 2 little ones to play up the whole Santa is real thing to. First, I am cooking for the same amount of peeps, and am doing Roast beef and a Crown Roast, with asstd sides. As for your french toast, I don’t know that recipe, but I’ve always made this “Creme Brulee frech toast strata” That can be made the night before, and is NEVER a failure in being a huge crowd pleaser. let me know if you’d like the recipe, it’s very easy. I applaud you in being an “ingenius slacker”, as I too have put off the traditional Christmas cookie baking. I usually do an assortment of cookies and have DOZENS baked by now. As of this moment I count count excatly zero. I also usually have a HUGE gingerbread house done by now. Hmmmm…..nothing. Tomorrow is actually gingerbread day, as my sister needs to be here for the disasterpiece. Have a great trip to VA and if you’d like the recipe, let me know and I’ll pass it along 🙂

  4. Chefmom — good to know there are other ingenious slackers out there. I remember having two little ones and trying to pull all this off. Jeez. No wonder I’m still tired after all these years! And YES, the recipe for the french toast sounds dee-light-ful so if you have time (bwahahahahaha) please send it. I’ll email you… THANKS!

  5. okay ante up I want some fat mama’s french toast….:):)

  6. Bwhahahaha, Robert! I’ll take photos so you can lick your screen. If I say butter, brown sugar, and pecans, does that give you an idea? Totally, sinfully, calorie laden, and plate-licking scrumptious. Guaranteed.

  7. Luckily, my wife did all of the toy shopping for the kids, and all we have left is a couple of stocking stuffers. We still need to wrap and hide presents though.

I was making some whole wheat banana bread for co-workers instead of gifts, and I have to find the recipe, and hopefully make it tonight. Like 8 loaves.

Good Luck Kellypea, and have a great trip!

  8. Hey Mike — the banana bread sounds delicious. I love it in the toaster. With buttah, of course. Good luck hiding those presents. That was always so much fun.

  9. It sounds like you have a busy holiday – our is pretty much over already. We do Christmas with friends but otherwise the family obligations are in the past.

You are cooking dinner for 16 in someone else’s kitchen?

I’m intrigued by the French Toast. Just this last weekend my Gina made some with a homemade loaf of challah from her recent baking adventures. We opted not to go with the cornflake crusted version (why cover up the wonderful bread) but the butter pecan syrup was sure tasty.

  10. Hi Scott — Yes, busy would be it, but I can’t figure out why. Just out of shape, I guess. Mmmm…challah. I wish. Yes, I’m making dinner in my sister’s kitchen. She has some specialties of her own, but doesn’t cook as much as I do and is far more sensible about what she spends her money on (hence no ramekins, etc…) so I’m planning on a dinner for a normal kitchen.

Enjoy some down time. You’re having some pretty weathery weather aren’t you? Ahhh…

  11. I feel your pain….yesterday I was so stressed/freaked out, my mother called to ask if I had been drinking! It was 10am. Not yet I told her!!!
Today I’m feeling a teeny bit more on track, but ARGGGG….the pressure the pressure!!!

  12. I am SO proud. So very proud of yer list!!

  13. Got a progress report on that list?

  14. Hey meleah…the list and more HAD to be done before I could get on that plane to VA. I finally figured out after we arrived that no wonder I was pooped. It was like I had to get ready for Christmas a week early. Quite challenging, but now that we’ve been here, it’s all unfolding nicely. I guess I need to find some time to get a post done, huh?
